YOUR DIESEL PRICE IS BEING SET IN RYAZAN
Soaring interest rates, 50% insurance spikes, and rent control caps are freezing out individual housing investors while politicians claim to solve affordability.
Ukraine says it has knocked out more than half of Russia's refining capacity and intends to hit more. Washington asked it to stop. Kyiv said no. That argument is why your pump reads $6.
NOT A CRASH. A REPRICING. THAT IS THE HARDER PROBLEM.
A Russian strike hit two buses in Kramatorsk today. At least thirty people were killed and eighteen wounded. That is the ground truth before any of the rest of this.
Ukraine's counteroffensive, code-named Vivaldi, has pushed Russian forces back in several pockets. Zelensky puts the recaptured ground at roughly 140 square kilometres of the Donbas.

Moscow has said controlling the entire Donbas is a condition of any deal. Vivaldi is aimed at that sentence as much as at the ground.
Ford predicted the flying car. Now you can invest in one. (AD)
In 1940, Henry Ford made a prediction:
“Mark my word: A combination airplane and motor car is coming.”
He was 86 years early.
Because Doroni Aerospace is now building almost exactly what Ford described.

The H1-X is a two-seat electric aircraft designed for vertical takeoff, home charging and — most importantly — personal ownership.
Not an airline.
Not an air-taxi service.
A vehicle designed to belong to the person flying it.
And right now, investors can own shares in Doroni itself.
Look at where the company stands today:
- $3.30/share
- 16,500+ investors
- $45M+ capital raised
- $240M+ in potential revenue from 600+ H1-X pre-orders
- 5 issued U.S. patents
- Nasdaq ticker $DRNI already reserved*
- Up to 20% bonus shares based on investment amount
Now consider what happened when Ford finally opened its doors to public investors.
In 1956, Ford shares were offered at $64.50.
Investors rushed to get in. Ford went on to become one of the defining American companies of the 20th century.
Doroni isn't Ford, and we won't pretend it is. But people told Henry Ford to "get a horse" for years, until Model Ts filled American roads.
Today you can buy Doroni shares privately at $3.30, before any potential Nasdaq listing.

THE BREAKDOWN: TWO CAMPAIGNS, ONE OF THEM REACHES YOUR PUMP
1. The refinery campaign is now the larger fact.
Ukraine's defence ministry reported on Monday that long-range strikes have disabled more than 51% of Russia's total oil refining capacity. In July the figure Kyiv gave was 42.7%, while the IEA put it above 20%.
Take the lower estimate and it is still the single biggest contributor to the global refining shortage this newsletter has tracked for a month. Seven to eight million barrels a day of capacity is offline worldwide. Roughly five million of that is Russian.
2. Washington asked Kyiv to stop, and was refused.
Trump urged Ukraine last month to leave Russian oil installations alone, saying the strikes were pushing global diesel prices up.
On October 3, Zelensky said Ukraine would instead double down, in response to a new Russian doctrine of strikes aimed at driving people out of Kyiv and other cities. He said Ukraine would respond "in any way (we can)" while not targeting civilians indiscriminately.
3. Rubio's language today was notably darker.
Speaking in Portugal, the Secretary of State described the war as a dangerous stalemate and said the United States wants a settlement that is permanent, enduring and fair.
Then the warning. Escalation, he said, could become "a sabotage campaign in neighbouring countries that are members of NATO," and could turn a two-country war into a much broader regional conflict. He added that Washington will not invest in processes that go nowhere.
4. Read those three items together.
Kyiv is winning ground and winning the refinery war. The refinery war is raising fuel prices across the West. Washington wants the whole thing settled, and has twenty-six days until a midterm election being fought on affordability.

THE FRICTION: THE SAME STRIKE DOES TWO JOBS

This is the hardest thing in the whole file, and it has no clean answer.
Ukraine's deep-strike campaign is, by most measures, its most effective weapon. It cuts the revenue funding the war, it has forced Moscow to ration fuel at home, and unlike ground offensives it costs very few Ukrainian lives. From Kyiv's side, asking them to stop is asking them to put down the thing that works.
From an American pump, the same campaign is a significant part of why diesel set a record last month, why the G7 opened emergency reserves last Friday, and why Washington threatened an export ban to force European tanks open.
Both of those are true at once. Rubio's stalemate language is the sound of an administration that wants the war finished partly because of what it is doing to prices at home, and that cannot say so plainly without weakening Ukraine's hand at a table that does not yet exist.

THE MACRO EXTRACTION
Stop treating the war as a background risk and start treating it as the supply schedule it has become. More than half of one of the world's largest refining complexes is offline because of a drone campaign, and the people running that campaign have publicly committed to expanding it.
That makes the diesel crack spread a war indicator, not just an energy one. If Vivaldi stalls and the strikes slow, margins come off and the pump follows within weeks. If the strikes widen, no reserve release covers it, because reserves are finite and refineries are not rebuilt in a quarter.
Rubio's NATO sabotage warning is the tail risk nobody is pricing. If this spreads into infrastructure attacks inside alliance members, you are no longer talking about fuel. You are talking about the insurance, shipping and energy complex of the whole continent repricing at once, on top of a bond market already at 2002 yields.
For a household or a business, the planning assumption does not change: elevated diesel through winter, and the heating season has not started. For anyone reading the war itself, the number to watch is not territory. It is the share of Russian refining still running.
Thirty people got on two buses in Kramatorsk this morning and did not get off. Everything above is downstream of that, and it is worth saying out loud before anybody calls it a market signal.
Keep your capital guarded, hold your ground, and stay sharp out there.
