Goldman’s clients are asking whether to buy bonds at 2002 yields. Half of them think yields go higher. And last year’s Nobel already explained the whole month.

## HALF THE ROOM SAYS 5.36% ISN’T THE TOP

Goldman’s client briefing today runs six items. Five of them describe the same machine, and the sixth names it.

That is the whole bond question in two lines. The yield is the best in twenty-four years, and half the professional money thinks you are early.

In physics, the “Battery Trap” is well known. To make one last twice as long, it must be twice as big.

But Infinity Fuel broke free from that limitation, finally creating energy technology that doesn't trade size for performance.

And the demand speaks for itself.

NASA signed a deal to help illuminate the Moon during 14-day lunar nights. The US Navy signed one to help power its underwater drones.

Those aren’t the only reasons [**investors are paying attention to Infinity Fuel’s new early-stage opportunity,**](https://clkgrid.com/6ac3b69ebebc6d3c6d446049?email=not%5Ftracked&domain=327TBEG&type=SA&product=PIFGN1&ref=bareeconomy.ghost.io)either:

- **$60M+ in past and current contracts since 2002,** including NASA and the U.S. Navy.
- **Active NASA Glenn contract** to build regenerative fuel cell stacks that survive the Moon's 14-day lunar night.
- **1,257 miles, 16 days underwater**, the longest run any fuel cell has completed, set by an Infinity-powered drone in March.
- **Scaling now** to move from prototype to production and fulfill present and future demand.

Now is [**your chance to own a piece**](https://clkgrid.com/6ac3b69ebebc6d3c6d446049?email=not%5Ftracked&domain=327TBEG&type=SA&product=PIFGN1&ref=bareeconomy.ghost.io) of this ceiling-shattering energy tech at the early stage.

## THE BREAKDOWN

**1\. Duration is the only question that matters.**

At these levels bonds finally pay a real return. But a long bond bought before the top loses principal on the way there, and gains it back only if you hold to maturity. Someone retiring in 2028 and someone retiring in 2048 are being offered completely different trades at the same price.

**2\. The survey is the tell, not the yield.**

Roughly half of institutional investors expecting higher yields after a 2002 print means the professionals are not treating this as a peak. That is positioning, not prophecy, and it has been wrong before. It is also the crowd on the other side of your purchase.

**3\. China’s two races are actually one race.**

Investors are watching the jockeying between China’s top-tier models and its semiconductor buildout. Those are not separate stories. A frontier model is a claim on compute, and domestic silicon is whether that claim can be honoured without an export licence.

**4\. Consumer sentiment is low for reasons beyond prices.**

Goldman flags that subdued sentiment may reflect more than cost-of-living pressure. They do not say what the rest is. Worth noting that diesel just set a record, housing is frozen, and people are being told an AI buildout is the growth story while their own wage is not in it.

**5\. VC secondaries are the liquidity valve.**

Hans Swildens of Goldman Sachs Asset & Wealth Management on the rise of secondary trading in venture. Translation: the IPO window stayed shut, the money needs out, and a market has grown to price what used to be marked by hope.

## THE FRICTION: THE BRAINTEASER ANSWERS ITSELF

Goldman’s quiz asks what last year’s economics Nobel was for. The answer: explaining innovation-driven economic growth. Joel Mokyr took half for identifying the preconditions of sustained technological progress. Philippe Aghion and Peter Howitt split the other half for the theory of growth through creative destruction.

![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/cd/fb/cdfb58c0-652d-463c-a766-e899e4b817ba/content/images/2026/10/bare-economy-creative-destruction.png)

Creative destruction is a clean phrase for a process that is not clean. The theory says the new displaces the old and output rises. It does not promise the same people are on both sides of that trade, and it does not say how long the gap lasts.

Every item on Goldman’s list is one face of it. Capital racing to compute, bonds repricing to pay for it, a Chinese chip sector sprinting to stay sovereign, venture investors selling to each other because the exit never opened, and a public whose mood will not lift no matter how good the growth number looks.

## [Three Gold Stocks That May Soon Disappear (AD)](https://clkgrid.com/6a748f053b98613b17fff159?email=not%5Ftracked&domain=327TBEG&type=SA&product=PGOMG608&ref=bareeconomy.ghost.io)

Three Gold Stocks That May Soon Disappear

The world’s largest gold miners have a strange problem.

They are generating record amounts of cash…

But they are running out of gold to mine.

Every ounce removed from the ground shortens the life of their most valuable assets.

And after years of underinvesting in new production, companies like Newmont, Barrick, and Agnico may have only one practical solution:

**Buy the best junior miners.**

The acquisition wave may have already begun.

One junior gold stock recently jumped [**79% in a single trading session**](https://clkgrid.com/6a748f053b98613b17fff159?email=not%5Ftracked&domain=327TBEG&type=SA&product=PGOMG608&ref=bareeconomy.ghost.io)after a takeover announcement.

Another received a **67% overnight premium**.

Now, Garrett Goggin has identified three profitable junior miners that remain deeply discounted — but may already be near the top of Big Gold’s shopping list.

These companies may not remain publicly traded for much longer.

## THE MACRO EXTRACTION

If you are buying bonds here, buy a maturity you can actually hold. The yield is genuinely the best offer in a generation, and it only pays if you are never forced to sell into the half of the market that thinks rates go higher.

The secondaries item is the one to file away. When a private asset class builds a working resale market, it is admitting its old exit stopped working. That is useful information about every private valuation on a statement you own.

And keep the Nobel in your pocket. The committee gave it to a theory describing exactly the year you are living through, and the useful part is not the optimism. It is the reminder that destruction is the first half of the phrase, it arrives before the growth does, and it lands on specific counties and specific people who did not pick the trade.

Keep your capital guarded, hold your ground, and stay sharp out there.

— Brook
